Love Affair #3

Love Affair #3

I'm pretty touchy feely when it comes to objects (although not people!) and how I love wool, fabric, ribbons, threads of all kinds – it’s so great to work with your hands and experience the materials physically as well as visually.
As well as more classic sewing and crotchet projects, I also like to experiment with fabric and fibres to create depth and texture. I never throw anything away (well hardly ever) so I have a massive stash of odds and ends to draw my inspiration from.
In this section you can discover my latest 'coup de coeur' from the world of all things textile.

Wpw- 29 july 2015 - birthday streamers

Hi - we're still away - our last day in the mountains (sniff ) before heading to Munich, so once again just a quick post, but full of colour.
This week my pattern forms the base of a birthday card for my niece (who is 6 today - happy birthday Rose!)
I've made cards for my friends and family for as long as I can remember, and I still love it - I know I certainly appreciate it when someone takes the effort to send me a handmade greeting.

So for a bright and lively six year old, plenty of bright colours and exuberance - Enjoy!

Wpw - 22 july 2015 - oh i do like to be...

...beside the seaside! Well not quite this summer, but Lake Constance in Germany has been our base for the last few days, and very lovely it is too. We're on our way to Austria today, so just a quick post to prove that I'm still alive and still sketching. I managed to find a quiet five minutes whilst the kids were splashing in the lake, so my pattern is beach inspired. So here are some sunny summery parasols - hope the sun is shining where you are. :)

Sadly my sketchbook that I've packed doesn't agree with my markers, and I can only apologise for the photo quality, but I think it will merit working up once I'm back home.

WPW - 15 July 2015 - going underground

Hi! This week the idea for my pattern came from a visit we made at the weekend to the caves at Han-sur-Lesse in Belgium.  It was the first time we'd visited anywhere like this as a family and Midi and Mini were suitably impressed by the formations.  Me too!

So I set about drawing a series of stalactites, stalagmites and columns running between two uneven lines to represent the cave floor and ceiling.  I then blacked in the spaces inbetween to hi-light the forms.

It only took about five minutes, but i'm really pleased with the effect.  I especially love how it repeats to form a strip .  I think it would make a really cool base for a Hallow'een project.

I'm off on holidays now, for two weeks, so I'll schedule my blogposts but might not be able to share them back to Lynn's page.  However they'll be here if you want to come and have a look.
See you all again in August when I shall be full of mountain air, and hopefully inspiration :)

Weekly Pattern Wednesday 8 - July 8th - colour therapy

*** Lynn is posting on facebook this week - http://www.facebook.com/smudgedtextilesstudio ***

Hi! Welcome to my post for Weekly Pattern Wednesday, being run by Lynn over at Smudged Textiles Studio.
Salut!

This week I started my design from a completely different angle - having been inspired by a painting my youngest brought home from school. It wasn't the subject which got my fingers itching, but rather the colours. They were so bold, and not at all ones which I would have put together, but the overall result was fabulous.

So I picked out my pens which were the nearest match and started colouring.
Firstly I wanted to colour the sheet which Lynn had kindly produced last week, so I had a play with that.

Then I got to thinking how I could make my own pattern but sticking with the same five colours.

I stayed with the idea of 'colouring-in' so I doodled some large daisies in black firstly. (Yes they are on the back of a tatty envelope as it was the first thing I had to hand!)

Once they were scanned and printed on nicer quality paper, I spent a very relaxing hour colouring them in. Hope you've got your sun glasses ready!!!

As you can see, I had my usual problem of indecisiveness.  I really liked the version with only the coloured background and couldn’t decide whether to continue with all of the colours. Thankfully with the wonders of modern technology I was able to scan the image at each stage which avoided me having to spend hours staring at my work trying to make that decision!!

WPW7 - 1 july 2015 - New Pens!

Hello!
Welcome to my post for Weekly Pattern Wednesday, being run by Lynn over at Smudged Textiles Studio. Another Wednesday is well and truly underway on this side of the Altantic – and phew! what a scorcher.  I started working in the garden, but had to run inside as even by 9am it was too hot for me, so I’ve come and hidden indoors.

Salut!

Midi D's photo of his new pens

Getting a new set of pens still fills me with a childish delight. Unsurprisingly I couldn’t resist buying my eldest a new set of pens for his birthday last month and he’s does plenty of drawings since.  After spending some time rearranging his new pens in the ‘right’ order, he then decided to take a photo of them because they looked so nice.  There’s no doubting he’s mine!!

It was so was lovely to share that excitement with my son that I couldn’t resist using his photo as a basis for this week’s pattern.  So here it is – my felt-pen rainbow – I hope you can share our pleasure.  (I did resist the temptation to use his pens though!)
