Fabulous felty fish - tutorial

Ok, here, as promised, is the prize from this month's challenge.  It's a felty fish kit - of my own design of course.  I hope our two winners have as much fun making them as I did!

For my fish I used Rainbow Classicfelt TM from kuninfelt.com which is made from recycled post-consumer plastic bottles and is available in a fabulous range of vibrant colours.  I used bright lilac; brilliant blue, neon green, orange, black and white.  I ordered mine through craftdepartment.com (but this is no way sponsored by them! other brands of felt and suppliers are available :) )
 

Materials - matériels

 

You will need an A4 sized piece for the fish bodies, plus scraps for the details.

Il vous faudra un morceau de feutrine de taille A4 pour les corps, plus des autres morceaux pour les détails.  J'ai utilisé lilas, bleu, vert neon, orange, noir et blanc. 

 

For the foam I upcycled a piece I had in stock, but patchwork wadding would be fine.

Pour le rembourage j'avais un morceau de mousse, 2cm d'épaisseur qui trainait chez moi - mais un morceau de rembourage pour le courte-pointe ira très bien.

You will also need dress makers pins; needle and thread and or craft glue.  (glue is fine for the details, but I recommend sewing the outer edge )

Autrement il faut des épingles, une aiguille et du fil ou de la colle. (personellement je trouve que la colle est bien pour les détails, mais pour l'exterieur il vaut mieux le coudre)

Instructions
   

1. Cut out two body shapes from your main felt colour 

Découpez 2 fois le corps dans votre couleur principale.
 

Cut out the eye pieces, mouth and stripes.  Either stick or sew in place on the first body piece. 

Découpez les yeux, la bouche et les rayeurs.  Vous pouvez les coller ou coudre en place sur le premier partie corps. 

2. Place the foam / wadding approx 1cm from the edge of the second body piece. 

Placez la mousse / le rembourrage sur le deuxième partie du corps, avec 1cm autours. 

 

3. Position the two body pieces together with the foam sandwiched between. 

 Positionez les deux parties du corps avec la mousse prise entre les deux.


 

4. With dress makers pins, attach the three layers, making sure to squash down the foam.  

Avec les épingles, attachez bien les deux parties, en aplattant bien la mousse. 

5. Starting near the tail, sew around the edge of the felt, avoiding the foam. Blanket stitch is ideal, but running stitch is fine. 

Commençant ver la queue, coudrez autours du feutrine, en évitant la mousse.  L'idéal est le point du couverture, mais un point simple marche bien aussi.
