WPW 6 – Cherry time – le temps des cerises.

Salut! Voici mon post pour Weekly Pattern Wednesday, qui a été créé par Lynn de Smudged Textiles Studio.

  

I always have loads of ideas buzzing round my head and so had already planned my pattern for this week, but the cherry tree in our garden is looking so amazing at the moment I just had to use that as inspiration. 

J’ai toujours des centaines d’idées qui font le tour de ma tête donc j’avais déjà commencé mon motif pour cette semaine, mais le cerisier dans notre jardin est tellement beau en ce moment, que je ne pourrais pas l’ignorer. 

 

 

I love our cherry tree – the blossom in spring is so beautiful, especially when the sky is blue.  This year it was particularly fabulous and it is now laden with cherries as a result.  I’m sure, as usual, that the birds will take most of them, but I’m quite happy to look out and watch them too – we get such a variety of species coming to visit, including a wood pecker and a red squirrel.

 J’adore notre cerisier – en printemps, les fleurs sont tellement jolies, surtout quand il y a un ciel bleu derrière.  Cette année c’était même plus magnifique que d’habitude, et par conséquence est maintenant ‘plein’ des cerises.  Je suis sûr que, comme tous les ans, ça sera les oiseaux qui prennent la plupart, mais je suis contente de les regarder – l’arbre accueille tout une variété d’espèces, le pic épeiche et un écureuil y inclus.  

 

 

So for my pattern…

Alors, Mon motif…

I started by drawing the cherries – using three colours, as they aren’t quite ripe yet.  I decided to concentrate on just three, intertwined branches, as the whole tree would have been too busy.

 J’ai commencé par dessiner les cerises – j’ai choisi trois couleurs parce que ils ne sont pas encore mûres.  J’ai ciblé trois branches au lieu de faire tout l’arbre pour éviter un design trop surchargé.

 

I then, as often happens, was overcome with doubt – should I add the leaves? Should I colour the cherries, colour the leaves? In order to cover all eventualities, I drew each part of the design as a separate image (using my very hi-tech ‘drawing on the window’ light box technique!).  That way I could either use them separate, or build them into a combined image later, phew!

Et puis, comme ça m’arrive souvent, j’ai un une crise de confiance.  Fallait-il dessiner les feuilles aussi ? Et colorer les cerises ? Et les feuilles ? Pour garder la plus d’options possible, j’ai fait un dessin pour chaque partie (en utilisant la fenêtre en tant que table lumineuse !) Comme ça, je pourrais les utiliser séparément ou pour faire une seule image.  Ouf !

Which I then worked up into a repeat.

WPW 5 - 17th June 2015

Hi again! If you've been following the last few weeks you'll know that Weekly Pattern Wednesday is being hosted by Lynn over at Smudged Textiles Studio and that we've all been having tons of fun designing our patterns each week.

Salut! Si vous avez suivi le blog ces derniers semaines vous sauriez que Weekly Pattern Wednesday est organisé par Lynn de Smudged Textiles Studio et qu'on s'est très bien amusé a faire les motifs chaque semaine.

This week my 'entry' is two-fold. I had so much fun with last week's city blocks, that I wanted to develop them.

Cette semaine il y a deux parties de mon design.  Je me suis éclaté il y 8 jours en créant les quartiers d'immeubles et je voulais developer ce thème.

Firstly I tried a second design using the same idea. This time I used letters to create the negative space.

En premier, j'ai fait un deuxième design utilisant le même idée.  Cette fois c'était les lettres qui faisaient les zones vides.

 

Secondly, I added colour to my original design. I also convinced two (slightly less than willing) volunteers  to do the same - I found it really interesting to see how colour changed how we see the design, especially as Midi-D coloured in the leaf shapes too. Mini-D soon got bored and decided to draw the sun setting over the garden pond - but hey that's cool too - they spend enough time at school being told exactly what to do when it comes to 'art'.

 

Après j'ai aussi ajouté de la couleur à mon motif original.  J'ai aussi convaincu deux volontaires (pas trop enthousiaste!) de faire pareil.  J'ai trouvé très intéressante comment la perception du motif a changé avec les couleurs.  C'était surtout le cas avec celui de Midi-D qui a colorié aussi les feuilles.  Mini-D s'est vite ennuyé et voulais plutôt faire un dessin de notre bassin avec un couché de soleil, mais bof, c'est de l'art aussi - surtout quand à l'école il faut toujours suivre minutieusement les consignes...  

Weekly Pattern Wednesday - 10 june

Hi again! These weeks certainly fly by! Here is the fourth edition of Weekly Pattern Wednesday hosted by Lynn at Smudged Textiles Studio.

This week's pattern was a by product of last week's roses - having studied the flowers, I decided to play around with the leaves.  

 

Bonjour! Comme les semaines passent vite! Voilà la quatrième semaine de 'Weekly Pattern Wednesday'.

Cette semaine mon motif a été créé par la suite de mes roses de la semaine dernière.  Ayant étudié les fleurs, j'ai décidé de jouer avec les feuilles. 

 

Firstly I created a relief pattern with the leaves with gesso on a green background.  Then i inked in the outlines.  I wasn't sure if it was finished, so i photographed it at this stage.  I then went back with my black pen to fill in some of the background.  

 

Premier étape, j'ai créé un motif en relief avec les feuilles en utilisant du gesso sur un fond vert.        Puis j'ai entouré les bords en encre noir.  Je n'était pas sûr s'il était terminé à cette stage là, donc je l'ai photographié.  Ensuite j'ai repris mon stylo pour remplir un peu l'arrière plan.

 

The original green background is very striking - but i also like the grey one - I think I might have a go at colouring it in (when i get a spare minute!) See you next week :)

Je trouve que le vert de l'original est très vif, mais j'aime aussi le version gris - j'aimerais le colorier (quand je trouve une minute de paix!) A la semaine prochaine :)

Weekly Pattern Wednesday - 3 June - English rose

Salut! Voici mon post pour Weekly Pattern Wednesday, qui a été créé par Lynn de Smudged Textiles Studio.

 

This week's pattern ties in with the current design challenge ‘Polly put the Kettle on’ which I'm running on my home page.

Le motif pour cette semaine est lié avec le défi de Polly qui est actuellement en cours sur mon site.

 

The principal is a five minute sketch design that can be completed in your tea (or coffee!) break. I'm a compulsive scribbler and I want to get other people drawing too!

Le principe est un croquis vite fait – le temps de prendre un café (ou tasse de thé !). Je suis une gribouilleuse compulsive et je veux encourager les autres de dessiner !

 

 

 

 

This month our theme is the UK, so my design, which is up for grabs for the winning entrant, is based on a rose. For historical reasons, I couldn't decide between red or white so it's a hybrid - a Tudor rose (uniting the houses of Lancaster and York) 

Le thème pour le mois de juin est le Royaume Uni, donc mon motif, qui peut être gagné dans le défi, a comme point de départ un rose.  Pour les raisons historiques je ne pourrai pas choisir entre un blanc ou un rouge, donc c’est un rose de la famille des Tudors (Henri VII etc.) qui a réuni les maisons de Lancaster (rouge) et York (blanc).

Above is the original sketch and here is the artwork (in gesso and ink on water colour paper). This week I wanted to concentrate more on how I could repeat the single design to make and interesting pattern.  Not sure I'm really happy with the results; they're all a bit too contrived.  However, I do love the one which was accidentally cropped - I think with a bit more work this could look great.

 

 

Ci-dessus vous trouverez l’esquisse et l’illustration (en gesso et encre sur papier d’aquarelle).  Cette fois je voulais me concentrer plus sur la façon de mettre les motifs ensemble pour créer une image plus intéressante.  Je ne suis pas sûr qui les résultats me plaisent…je les trouve trop forcé.  Cependant, J’aime bien l’image qui a été recadré (en fait par hasard !) – ça fait des formes intéressantes sur l’arrière-plan.  Je pense que ça méritera quelques travaux supplémentaires et j’aurai un motif qui me plaise vraiment !

Weekly Pattern Wednesday - 27 may

As some of you know I've been joining in with WeeklyPatternWednesday hosted by Lynn Krawczyk over at SmudgedTextilesStudio.

 

 

 

Comme vous le sauriez peut-être, depuis la semaine dernière je participe dans  WeeklyPatternWednesday avec Lynn Krawczyk de SmudgedTextilesStudio.

I had so much fun last week with my seed heads, that I decided to continue the theme. This week my design is based on a more well known (here in Europe at least!) plant, that of the poppy (papaver rhoes ) 

 

 

 

Je me suis tellement bien amusé pour faire mon dernier design avec les capsules à graine, que j'ai décidé de continuer avec le thème pour cette semaine aussi, mais avec une plante mieux connue, le coquelicot (papaver rhoes) .

 

 

The poppies here are just starting to flower, it's so lovely to see them along the roadsides and amongst the crops.  It will be the end of summer before they reach the stage of seed heads, so, to reflect this I've chosen warm colours for the background.

Les coquelicots ici commencent juste d'apparaître. C'est trop beau de les voirs sur les lisières des routes et dans les champs.  Il faut attendre le fin d'été d'avoir les capsules, donc j'ai choisi les couleurs chauds pour l'arrière plan. 

 

 

The seed heads are almost silhouetted against the golden corn and the setting sun.

Stitched Eiffel Tower - Tutorial

Hello everyone, here is he tutorial to make my stitched Eiffel Tower :

Bonjour tout le monde, voici le tutoriel pour créer mon Tour Eiffel brodé :

Materials – matériels

·         A4 sheet thick card, but suitable for printing on (I used 250mg from recycled paper supplies)

·         feuille a4 du carton épais (j’ai utilisé 250mg, mais il faut que ça passe dans votre imprimante.)

·         Embroidery thread in the colour of your choice to contrast with the card.   You will need at least double strands of embroidery thread and it does use quite a lot, so I recommend starting with a new skein.

·         du fil de broderie dans le couleur de votre choix.  Il faut une longueur assez importante, alors je vous conseillerai de commencer avec une échevette neuve.

The colour combination is entirely up to you – my original pink version was quite accidental, but I ended up rather liking it – I chose grey thread on blue for the competition kit, but my favourite so far is the gold on black  J

Le choix des couleurs est à vois de dire – j’ai choisi le fil rose complètement par hasard, mais je l’aime quand même. J’ai choisi du fil gris sur du carton bleu pour le kit ; mais je crois que mon préféré est le fil d’orée sur du carton noir J

Techniques

·         To make the holes there are various techniques.  If you’re super technically crafty and you have a ‘silhouette’ cutter gadget thingy (can you tell I’m not?!) you can use this FREE cut file (a massive thanks to Cara over at the hooting pirate for her tech support!!)

·         Il existe plusieurs façons de faire les trous.   Si vous êtes branchés dans le domaine des arts créatifs et vous donc posséder un ‘silhouette’ (machine pour découper) vous pouvez télécharger  GRATUITEMENT un fichier de coupe ici (Un grand Merci à  Cara de HootingPirate.com  pour son assistance technique !)

·         Secondly you can use a needle, preferably in a needle vice or cork - like this (it doesn’t have to be champagne cork of course, but I do live in France ;)  – and a piece of thick felt underneath; to punch the holes

·         Deuxième, et ma méthode préféré, vous pouvez utilise rune aiguille – soit dans un pince ou dans un bouchon (pas forcément un bouchon de champagne, mais bon, j’habite en France ;) – avec un morceau de feutrine épais en dessous.

·         If you have a sharp enough needle you can make the holes as you go, but it is easier if they’re already made.

·         Si vous avez une aiguille assez pointue, c’est possible de faire les trous en même temps que vous les coudrez, mais c’est quand même plus facile si les trous sont déjà là.

·         The other option is to buy a kit from me with the holes ready-made… Leave me a message in the contacts :)

·         L’autre option est d’acheter un kit de chez moi… Laissez-moi un message dans la formulaire de contact :)

Method/méthode

1.       Print the pattern onto your card, taking care to centre the design.  If your card is dark, like in my example, print the pattern onto white and tape it to the card whilst you make the holes.

Imprimer le modèle sur votre carton, en prenant soin de le centrer. (Ou sur une feuille blanche si votre carton est de couleur foncé comme ici)

2.       Using your ‘bodger’ of choice, make the holes following the pattern.

Avec votre objet pointu de choix, faites les trous suivant le modèle.

3.       Cut a length of your thread and knot the end.  Starting at the top work the cross stitches. To making casting on (and off) easier, the end of the thread can be taped to the card.

Coupez un brin de fil et nouez-le.  En commençant de la partie haute, travailler tous les points croisés.  Pour faciliter le démarrage (et le fin) l’extrémité du fil peut être scotché sur l’arrière du carton.

4.       Renew the thread as necessary, using the same technique.

Renouveler le fil selon vos besoins, en utilisant la même technique.

5.       Work the horizontal stitches in a similar fashion.

Travailler les points horizontaux dans la même façon.

6.       Finish with the vertical and diagonal stitches. Check that all the ends are secured.

Terminer avec les points verticaux et diagonaux. Vérifiez que tous les extrémités de fils sont scotchées.

7.       Your Eiffel tower is now finished.  Find somewhere suitable to display your hard work J

Votre Tour Eiffel est maintenant terminé.  Trouvez un endroit pour l’exposer – votre travail le mérite J

Weekly Pattern Wednesday

Hello – welcome to Weekly Pattern Wednesday! This is a new feature for me which is being organised by the talented Lynn Krawczyk, designer, blogger and all round creative spirit over at Smudged Textiles Studio… I’ve recently discovered her work and it’s really cool to see someone else who is a pattern obsessive and also a compulsive doodler, especially just after having written my doodle post.

Bonjour – et bienvenue à’Weekly Pattern Wednesday’ (ou ‘les Motifs Hebdomadaire des Mercredis’ si vous préférez!)   C’est un nouveau article pour moi, qui est organisé par la doué Lynn Krawczyk bloggeuse et designer de Smudged Textile Studio… Je viens de découvrir son travail est c’est chouette de trouver une autre personne qui s’obsède avec des motifs

So, the idea is that each Wednesday all the participants blog about their latest pattern, which we then link back to Smudged Textiles and share through the wonders of social media, to create a kind of pattern party – the more the merrier!

Alors, le concept c’est que chaque mercredi tous les participants mettent un article sur leurs blogs avec leur dernier motif.  L’article est donc lié avec le blog De Smudged Textiles Studio et partager par tous les moyens possible sur des réseaux sociaux – un sorte de fête des motifs – avec les invités illimités !

So let me tell you about this week’s pattern from Polly…

Donc, je vous raconte l’histoire du motif de Polly de ce mercredi-ci….

 

One of my favourite plants in my garden is the snake’s head fritillary (fritillaria meleagris)  – such a delicately patterned flower which is continuously changing throughout its life. 

 

 

Une de mes plantes préférées dans mon jardin est la fritillaire pintade  (fritillaria meleagris) – les petales ont des motifs tellement délicat, qui changent tout le temps. 

 

 

 

Even better, it then goes on to produce lovely seed heads (which mystifies me as it grows from corms, but I digress) and it is these seed heads which have inspired my pattern. 

 

En plus, après les fleurs sont fanés, il a des magnifiques capsules de graines (ce pour moi reste un mystère vu que c’est une plante qui se reproduise par les bulbes, mais bon, ça c'est une autre histoire…) et c’est donc ces capsules qui m’ont inspirés pour mon design.

 

So here are my sketches - firstly studying the seed heads, then turning these forms into a pattern.

 Voici mes équisses - en haut j'ai dessiné les capsules, puis j'ai pris les formes pour en faire un motif.

 

 

And here is the 'ta da' moment - the finished pattern..... I think there's going to be more where this came from :)

Et voici mon motif terminé... Je crois que c'est le début de quelque chose :)

 

It still needs a bit of tlc, but here is how it would look as a repeated pattern.
